I’m making my way through Spooks seasons 7 to 9 (each season is only 8 episodes) since they are the Richard Armitage years.
Of note: Seasons 1 and 2 starred Matthew Macfadyen (who played Mr. Darcy in the Keira Knightley Pride and Prejudice) and Keeley Hawes – the two eventually married in real life (and Hawes would portray Armitage’s sister in The Vicar of Dibley). Seasons 3 to 6 starred Rupert Penry-Jones (who would go on to play Captain Wentworth in a BBC adaptation of Persuasion). These period men make such good spies—oh the repression!
Season 8 featured an awful love match between the American character of Sarah Caulfield (the actress who played her is Irish) and Lucas North (Armitage). I have a fondness for the below video because of the total John Thornton look of Armitage from 0:52 to 1:07—I think Lucas is distracted and thinking of Margaret Hale and is wondering when this valentine op mission will be over with.
And I love how his name is Lucas “North.”
